Don’t meddle with the present!

Don’t dwell on the past!
Don’t invite the future!
And don’t meddle with the present!

Let come, let be, and let go.
If you don’t let come,
It will be very difficult to let go.

Don’t try to stop thoughts, you won’t be able.
Don’t repeat them either. It’s not really healthy …

All this is easy to say, but not so easy to do. In fact, nothing needs to be done in this highest form of meditation, and that’s the problem. We are not wired that way. We are so used in planning and scheming, that just givig ourselves a break is extremely difficult. That’s why we need all these complicated methods, because our mindset is so complicated.

Where do all this thoughts of
Past and future abide?
In the present only, isn’t it?
Past and future are not real –
Except for our thoughts about them.
Why not then, let them come and go?
No need for meddling.

All these methods have one single purpose: to wear out our grasping to words, form and mind. We see ourselves and thoughts as something quite solid, and the practices are done to overcome this solidification of “the I”, and its thoughts and emotions, by seeing that they are actually totally insubstantial.

Thoughts are only thoughts, nothing more –
Coming and going like bubbles in water.
But why am I so enslaved by them?
They have no substance –
So, what’s the big deal?

But when just letting be doesn’t work, we have hundreds of methods to apply, instead of falling into mental spinning.
